UN Warns of Imminent Famine as Aid Routes Remain Blocked
OCHA reports that over 2.2 million people face catastrophic food insecurity as humanitarian corridors continue to be restricted, with warehouses sitting idle at border crossings.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has issued its starkest warning yet about the humanitarian situation in Gaza. In a briefing to the Security Council, OCHA reported that systematic restrictions on aid delivery have pushed the population to the brink of famine.\n\nAccording to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), the entire population of Gaza is now experiencing crisis-level food insecurity or worse, with northern areas already in famine conditions. Aid agencies report that despite having supplies pre-positioned at border crossings, fewer than 10% of requested humanitarian convoys have been approved.\n\n"We are witnessing the deliberate use of starvation as a method of warfare," said one senior UN official speaking on condition of anonymity. "The infrastructure for aid delivery exists. What is lacking is political will and access."\n\nThe World Food Programme has warned that without immediate and sustained access, mass starvation deaths are inevitable. Medical facilities report increasing numbers of children suffering from acute malnutrition, with pediatric wards overwhelmed.\n\nInternational humanitarian law experts note that the deliberate obstruction of humanitarian aid constitutes a violation of the Geneva Conventions and may amount to a war crime under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
