Project Overview
In the Shadow of Now is a five-part independent documentary series (5 × 45–60 min) examining the Palestine-Israel conflict through the lived experiences of the people inside it. The series spans 176 years of history — from the decisions made by empires, to the consequences endured by families today.
Directed, produced, and edited by Abbas Holcroft, the project is fully independent and crowd-funded. It has no corporate backers, no editorial gatekeepers, and no political affiliations. The film is produced by True Illusions (trueillusions.media).
Global launch target: May 15, 2026 (Nakba Day).

The Five Parts
The Past — "It Was Decided"
The colonial and imperial decisions that created the modern conflict. From the Ottoman collapse through the Balfour Declaration to the Nakba.
The Palestinian Perspective — "To Wake Up Here"
Daily life under blockade, occupation, and exile. Not as geopolitical theory, but as morning routine, school run, and checkpoint.
The Connect — "Grief Has No Border"
Israeli and Palestinian families confronting shared loss without surrendering to hatred. Conscience as resistance.
The Present — "This Is Not a Beginning"
October 7 and its aftermath, placed in historical context rather than isolation. What the world saw — and chose not to see.
The Future — "Who Benefits?"
The economics of occupation. Who profits from perpetual conflict, and what peace would actually cost.
Director

Abbas Holcroft is a British filmmaker. In the Shadow of Now is his directorial debut — a project born not from career ambition but from the conviction that some stories demand to be told honestly, even when the cost is personal.
As a sole filmmaker, Abbas serves as director, producer, director of photography, editor, and colourist. This isn't a limitation — it's a deliberate choice. One person. One camera. No committee between the subject and the audience.
